Proposed Amendment to Substitute "Neutral" for "Master" in Federal Rules
Informal AAJ Comment
Sept. 10, 2024In February 2024, the American Bar Association (ABA) submitted proposals to substitute the term “court-appointed neutral” for “court-appointed master” within FRCP 53, FRBP 9031, and other federal rules that reference potentially appointing a “master.”
AAJ President Lori Andrus and Minority Caucus Chair Christopher H. Fitzgerald filed a joint letter in support of the ABA proposal in September 2024, urging the Advisory Committee of Civil Rules to consider the use of more neutral terminology in civil litigation.
