Climate Change

The scientific evidence is overwhelming—global warming is happening, and human activity is primarily to blame. One hundred companies, referred to as the Carbon Majors, are responsible for more than 70 percent of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions since 1988. These companies waged a multi-decade campaign of deception and misinformation to prevent clean energy bills and other measures to address the climate crisis. Now with sea levels rising and severe weather worsening, trial lawyers are filing lawsuits to hold these Carbon Majors accountable.
The Climate Change Litigation Group was formed in 2019.

This Litigation Group shares information among trial lawyers handling cases against carbon emitters and/or extractors. The group meets at AAJ’s Annual and Winter Conventions to discuss developments in the various litigations. The group has a document library and a list server through which Litigation Group members can share resources.

  • Meetings: The group meets at AAJ Annual and Winter conventions.
  • Membership: The group is limited to AAJ Regular, Life, Sustaining, and President’s Club members.
