Liability for dog attack
January 2025As Doe, who was in his 50s, was unloading trash from his pickup truck at a local dump, a pit bull allegedly emerged from the open door of a nearby truck. The dog attacked Doe ferociously, resulting in lower leg lacerations that necessitated debridements and skin grafting. Doe’s medical expenses totaled $135,000, and he incurred $12,000 in lost income.
Doe sued the dog’s joint statutory owners, alleging liability for the attack.
The parties settled for $445,000.
