Intentional infliction of emotional distress

Joshua Smith, 41, lived in a home owned and managed by Pinestreet LLC and Devon Andrade. The landlord entered Smith’s home without notice and took his rescue cat, Frank, out of the home. Losing Frank, his life companion, caused Smith severe emotional distress.

Smith sued Andrade and Pinestreet LLC, alleging intentional infliction of emotional distress.

The jury awarded over $1.37 million, including $1.2 million in punitive damages.
